“The residence begins with a grand entrance, exuding richness and style through a veneer-finished door that embraces minimalism with functionality. As part of a smart design strategy, we cleverly concealed the main DB unit behind a push-door system, showcasing versatility in design,” explains Saumitra Bhatkhalkar. Moving further in, a mirrored panel enhances the entrance, creating a sense of spaciousness while adding a decorative touch. Adjacent to this is a sliding kitchen door designed to glide effortlessly in both directions, maintaining style without compromise. “The console was adorned with a serene Buddha statue, set against a stunning stone sheet back panel, which elevated the elegance of the space,” adds Sharmin.

Rooted in the philosophy of Mies van der Rohe—“We must be as modern as the possibilities of our time”—the living area is divided into three functional zones: the formal living area, lounge, and dining space. This multi-functional approach caters to modern lifestyles while reflecting the personality of the occupants. By fully utilizing wall surfaces, closed and hidden storage solutions were integrated, ensuring every element complemented the next to create a cohesive whole. Natural textures and patterns of raw wood blended seamlessly with the neutral palette throughout the living area. This cohesive aesthetic extended to the loose furniture, where natural polished pieces like the sofa, center table, dining table, and chairs harmonized with the natural oak and beige backdrop. A minimal yet elegant rug from Obeetee anchored the composition, contributing to a refined and well-balanced design.

“Transitioning into the dining space, cane statement fixtures sourced from The White Teak Company and additional hanging lights from Artemis cast a warm glow. We further enhanced the minimalist aesthetic by using invisible and pivot hinges in the furniture. Stone sheets from Stonelam were added to elevate the sophistication of the space,” explains Saumitra. A smart and striking feature of the apartment is the pooja unit—a space-saving design with custom cabinets and fold-in doors. Behind it lies a concealed, full-height, wall-length pull-out storage system on wheels, crafted from wood and tailored for storing extra baggage. Adjacent to this is a compact niche housing an enclosed bar unit. Both the pooja and bar unit doors feature sandwich glass panels embedded with subtly translucent fabric, offering a refined balance between privacy and elegance.

The bedrooms were designed with both function and personality in mind. “A well-designed space makes its occupants feel authentically themselves,” says Sharmin. The master bedroom exemplifies this ethos with a striking 3D back panel in a neutral PU finish, paired with a walnut-finished bed frame and a luxurious leather headboard. A standout study chair from Misurra brought vibrancy to the multifunctional study-cum-TV unit. The daughter’s bedroom, meanwhile, is a cozy retreat with minimal yet impactful design elements. A warm, earthy green headboard added a splash of color, paired with a custom handmade frame. Back-painted glass wardrobes enhanced the sense of space in the compact room, while curtains from Emblish introduced a soft, graceful finish.
In essence, the residence is a marriage of vision, personal preference, and lifestyle—thoughtfully transformed into captivating, functional spaces that embody aesthetic elegance and everyday efficiency.
