Estate Paathiri denotes a fusion of art, design and engineering and is a testament to nature’s resilience. By seamlessly integrating rocks and trees, both symbolic of endurance into our vision, we have created an exceptionally harmonious living experience.
George E. Ramapuram - Principal Architect & MD, Earthitects
Built on sloping land on the side of a mountain, the site, with its undulating topography, presented us with a unique canvas upon which to create a truly distinctive living experience - without destroying the trees. Instead of reshaping the land to fit our design, we weaved our architectural vision around the hillside’s slopes and large trees. Inspired by the design of mountain lodges, this villa is built in synchrony with the mountain on three distinct levels.

First and foremost, ensuring the structural integrity of the residence while working around the rock was paramount. We had to consult structural engineers to understand the rock’s stability and the necessary measures to secure it and build around the trees strategically. Incorporating a massive rock into the design required intense collaboration with structural engineers to ensure both the residence’s stability and the preservation of the unique geological feature.

Confronted with the challenge of building on sloping mountain terrain, the undulating topography has been used to craft a distinctive private residence that integrates with the natural landscape.

Transportation of construction materials and machinery was a challenge too as the site was remote and rugged. We had to devise innovative methods to minimize our environmental impact and respect the natural surroundings during construction.

At Earthitects’, we design projects to foster a sustainable lifestyle, where the existing nature of the site becomes an integral part of the design. This includes preserving native trees, cultivating organic vegetable gardens, and creating sanctuaries for endangered birds. We integrate measures that efficiently absorb and release heat, reduce heating and cooling costs, and minimize the ecological impact. We use native and natural materials to ensure harmony between the built environment and the surrounding natural landscape.
