Building design and construction in India is undergoing a sea change right now and it is for the better. A lot of technological advances from the West and techniques of RCC construction from the Far East has had an impact on building design and construction in India. Smart / intelligent buildings incorporating the latest technology to bring in energy efficiency are the norm of the day. This is good news as Indian buildings are now at par with buildings anywhere else in the world. The advent of new materials from all over the world into India has had a huge impact on the design of new buildings and retro-fitting of old buildings.
Technologies like BIM, Rhino etc changing the entire landscape of building design and implementation. Building typologies and climatology will determine usage of materials, so all types of materials will remain in demand.
Traditional materials like brick, stone, bamboo, mud, and timber are here to stay. Glass steel and concrete will have an impact, perhaps, on commercial buildings. New age materials such as polycarbonates and other composites are also making an impact. Building typologies and climatology are two parameters that will determine usage of materials, and therefore, all types of materials will still remain in demand. This holds good in developing nations where climatology and budget play a dominant role in choice of materials. We do projects throughout the world in different nations and we have experienced these parameters at play.
Precast, PEB, drywall sytems of construction have their limitations, but they will play a big role in building construction in the future.
As regards construction techniques like precast, PEB, drywall etc, we have used these elements in our projects, but there are certain limitations. The limitations will, however, pass and these building techniques will play a big role in the building construction scene in the future. Time is of essence in construction and this parameter will a game changer in the dynamics of building construction.
