The India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), named Yashobhoomi and located in Dwarka, New Delhi, has achieved global recognition by winning the International Architecture Award® 2025 for being among the world’s best civic centres—one of the most prestigious honours in global design and architecture. The landmark project was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and designed by CP Kukreja Architects in collaboration with IDOM (Spain).

This distinguished award, presented by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design in collaboration with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, places Yashobhoomi among the three largest convention centres in the world and marks a milestone in India’s public infrastructure achievements. The award is presented annually to exceptional works of architecture from across the globe. This year, over 1,200 entries were submitted worldwide, with only 250 projects selected by an international jury—Yashobhoomi standing proudly among them.

Spanning 225 acres with a built-up area of 2.2 million sq ft, Yashobhoomi is the first convention centre of its scale and kind in India, symbolising the nation’s ambition to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s finest. Amitabh Kant, Ex-Sherpa @G20org and Former CEO @NITIAayog, said, “Delighted to learn that Yashobhoomi – India International Convention and Expo Centre has been honoured with the highly prestigious International Architecture Award 2025 by The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. The award will be bestowed at the historic Acropolis in Athens, Greece, a cradle of architectural heritage. Thanks to PM Narendra Modi for the vision and for giving me the opportunity to conceptualise and drive it as Secretary DIPP.”

Architect Dikshu C. Kukreja, Managing Principal of CP Kukreja Architects, said, “Yashobhoomi is more than a convention centre—it is a statement of India’s aspirations and capabilities. Inspired by our culture and heritage, the design blends timeless Indian artistry with modern technology and sustainable practices. Its recognition at the International Architecture Awards is a proud moment for the nation.”

Yashobhoomi has the capacity to host more than 11,000 attendees and will house India’s first circular retractable roof in its upcoming indoor arena. It features one of the largest LED façades in the world, spanning 100,000 sq ft, and is seamlessly integrated into Delhi’s transport network with an on-site metro station, car-free pedestrian zones, and green boulevards that reflect India’s commitment to sustainability and accessibility. The state-of-the-art facility covers more than 8.9 lakh sq m of total project area, with a built-up area exceeding 1.8 lakh sq m. Its interiors showcase Indian cultural influences through terrazzo floors with brass inlay inspired by rangoli patterns, suspended sound-absorbent metal cylinders, and illuminated patterned walls. Spread across eight floors, the 13 meeting rooms are designed to host events of varying scales. The centre has received Green Cities Platinum certification from CII’s Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

The grand ballroom, with its unique petal ceiling, can host around 2,500 guests and has an extended open area that can seat up to 500 people. The underground parking facility accommodates over 3,000 cars and includes more than 100 electric vehicle charging points.
