With its passion for sustainable construction methods, the company is keen on exploring opportunities offered in the field of steel structures, for the material is one of the most sustainable among the currently available in the world. One of the sustainable features of steel is that it allows for longer span sections, and therefore, reduces material usage. Additionally, the lightness of steel also means reduced transportation, foundation, as well as labour costs. Structural steel systems are also able to carry the same amount of loads as other materials used in construction while being lighter.

Since almost the entire structure can be fabricated in a factory, structural steel systems enable reduction in site work, as well as unnecessary wastage, as is the case with conventional construction methods. Structural steel also helps bring fine detailing thereby reducing the use of other materials for cladding or covering. Structural steel systems also enable energy-efficient buildings for good steel design enables reduction in energy consumption.

Productivity doubles after the Metal Metro Service in our Factory Shop floor
On an average, we supply over 400 kits to L&T every month where each kit has over 30 profiles and more, all in varying thicknesses, steel grades, and shapes. Each profile goes through its unique process which is listed in its packing slip. The packing slip states the process that each profile has to go through, what goes for drilling and what needs beveling, what needs milling, some need just one process, some two, and some all.

In the same facility, we also manufacture PEB and Steel Structures. In our plasma machines, daily we cut over 25 plates in varying thicknesses & grades, for different projects, clients, and processes. Some are towards medium and heavy fabrication kits for earth moving equipment and some are for Beams, Columns, Girders, and other Steel Structures.

Going with the nature of operations, the manpower and efforts needed to control the movement of profiles once cut, was very high. And, to coordinate with every station and maintain optimal inventory were becoming increasingly challenging. Therefore, to combat that, we developed our own unique process control – Metal Metro Service plan that covers the whole process, right from plate to profile stage to product stage to dressing and then finishing stage to final dispatch. It allows us to reach optimum inventory, and we carefully avoid wastage of raw material. Every Work Station now get their metal components for process in time and it becomes easier for them to commit completion and movement to the next station on same colour line.

These lines ensure that right from nesting stage the profiles to be cut are colour-coded. After cutting, the CNC operator assigns colour-codes to all the profiles, which later are off-loaded in the colour-coded pallets. These pallets then are shifted to the next station where once the process is completed; it goes on to the next till the finish line. (Easy and Visual Identification)
