The biggest challenge is to convert the existing structures into reasonably energy-efficient green buildings. Retrofitting these structures is one of the solutions. It is proven high-volume, low-cost strategy to improve energy efficiency, thereby helping us to tackle one of the major causes of climate change.

New age home owners are now retrofitting homes, converting the existing home spaces into models of sustainability. While the number of retrofitted projects in India is currently small, the current target is to provide direction to the people about the benefits of retrofitting are great, which reduces vulnerability of damage of an existing structure during a future earthquake situation. It aims to strengthen a structure to satisfy the requirements of the current codes for seismic design. Retrofitting and refurbishing housing stock is a key to achieve country's ambitious carbon reduction target.
