2018 is supposed to be the year of the 'Brown Dog' in the Chinese calendar, which is the sign of male earth dog, and is evinced in mountainy colours such as greens, browns, and pastels. The greyish pistachio, blush pink and indigo not only indicate the prospect of luck, and ardour, but also the steadfast personality.

Riot of Colours
For those who love playing with colours, Ash Rose (auburn greyish red), a muted pink pastel with a grounded hue or a basic white when combined with a secondary complementing colour Lime Punch, results in a by-product which is highly versatile. Just throw in some furniture in ash grey nuovo smoked-wood and a blonde wooden floor, or maybe a super-glossy or a pearlescent finish table-top for a uber-chic look. Possibly, a vintage look could be played around with teak cabinets, airy windows with sheer curtains, wood pattern laminate furniture, and a royal chandelier.

Many designers are experimenting with the orange undertone of cherry tomato, which adds fierceness to any space. Place an underlying-statement bed in teak, and contrasting-complementing cushions or table pieces in cherry tomato and blend it with complementing coloured laminates with a matte or glossy finish.

Riot of Colours

From the mainline colours, the meadowlark (honey marigold), adopted from the world of paints, is creating ripples for its ability to reflect 'light' in remarkable ways, and is mostly acceptable outdoors. Discover a whole new world of scullery by playing with the meadowlark-white contrasting complement. Let the yellow standout in the form of glossy cabinets neutralised by stainless grabbers, stuccoed textures or panelled walls, and beautify the kitchen with glass lamp-lights or other wall hangings.

Shades of Latte
From stylish whitewashed spaces to laminated living rooms, these trends are serving up coffee and interiors, from a latte to espresso. Bring to your bedroom the mildly creamed interiors in shades of latte. Coffee is believed to improve energy levels. You may also decorate the walls with raw-finished show-racks with New Mika laminate tops, and lighten-up the room with a side lamp, book shelves and other floor crawlers. Enhance the coffee floors with matching furniture pieces, and add blank spaces to the room with artefacts and stucco textured walls.

Back to the Sixtie1s
Grey and charcoal has been a well-accepted monochromatic color scheme in the early 1960s, and was also a modish fusion. 'While tints and hues in monochrome scheme bring variance, they also enlighten a complementing capability with dark wood and grey veneers. This adds depth to the décor that lends a spacious look and feel to the interiors. Wood floorings are timeless. Understated, flat-finished texture is rocking the floor. For the year ahead, grey and dark wood floorings, will be a spot on for the antique and sleek surface that looks and feels good. Perhaps pairing these rustic matte floors with fresh modern veneer interiors could be the next raw-modern look!

Here are a few trends to welcome monochromes, all-over patterns and raw textured finishes. The appetite for spacious yet sophisticated décor is back again. With the color palette making a switch to greys, bring home smoky hues with grey veneers. One can use textured raw looking distressed veneers to indulge in a natural look, or customize the same as per your penchant.

2018 brings back the vintage trend of natural textures to the hip trends in décor. While the 1960s is known for a demand of natural textured wood, the sharp trend is back with people once again wanting natural looking wood in their homes.

Textures
Textures help add depth to a room, and bring a certain tactile element to the surfaces, and help bring out the colours to their fullest potential. Textures can be metallic, wood or even some masonry. Stucco is a very interesting technique used by masons to give a slightly rough appearance to walls using a spatula. Today, stucco is available in laminates as well. Then there is the abstract texture, like some geometric shapes.

Accenting
Accenting can help break monotony and add some visual relief. Laminates are a great way to do this. A nice bright red or violet laminate overlay on horizontal surface like kitchen countertops or cupboard doors, will help add that splash of colour.

Veneers
For the year ahead, grey and dark wood floorings, will be a spot on for the antique and sleek surface that looks good and feels good. Perhaps pairing these rustic matte floors with fresh modern veneer interiors could be the next raw-modern look.

Veneers are thin wood slices typically glued onto the medium-density core panels to produce flat paneled sheets for high-end doors, furniture tops and floors. It is more premium as it is made of real wood. While choosing the best veneers, keep in mind the rule of 6Ts-
  • 'Trees' and their land of origin serve as the foundation of best quality veneers as it influences grain patterns and the rings
  • The 'type' and the grade of veneer must be identified
  • The 'thickness' of the face veneers and the back ply ensures the durability of the product
  • The 'texture' in terms of distressed, oxidization, sand blast, UV hand-painted etc. serves as value additions, creating a lasting visual impression on the product
  • Also, the 'tone' of the veneer depends on the type of species and the way the wood logs are sawn. The original species lend a unique tone and character to the veneers, leading to an enriching and well-curated décor
  • A full 'treatment' marks the completion of the process post a rigorous drying and chemical treatment which enables the veneer to withstand bad weather conditions and termites
While spacious interiors marked the end of the sixties, the appetite for spacious yet sophisticated décor is back again. With the color palette making a switch to greys, bring home smoky hues with grey veneers. One can use textured raw looking distressed veneers to indulge in a natural look, or customize the same as per your penchant.
