Steering away from the typical sales offices, this design by SAGI Architects uses design innovation and four shipping containers to create a high-end experience in a temporary structure for Transcon Developers.
The intent was to create a positive first impression that reflects the high quality and design aesthetic of Silverbay. We also recognized the need for a sustainable and cost-effective solution. Shipping containers allowed us to exercise creativity and design a unique space while minimizing our environmental impact.

The sales office for Silverbay, an upscale luxury residential project by Transcon Developers in Bandra West, Mumbai, is constructed using shipping containers. The office is a sustainable and cost-effective workspace solution that paves the way for new-age temporary structures. The project along with its sales office was officially inaugurated on 9th April 2024 by Shraddha Kedia-Agarwal and Rishi Todi, Directors, Transcon Developers.

The facade boasts a shimmering silver effect, inspired by the project’s name, Silverbay, creating a striking visual statement that reflects the surrounding environment. The climate-responsive design, double-height reception lobby and efficient space planning help minimise heat gain, utilize natural light, and reduce energy consumption.

The temporary nature of the sales office, made using prefabricated shipping containers, offers a sustainable and cost-effective design solution with several environmental benefits. Repurposing containers reduces landfill waste and the need for virgin materials. Additionally, prefabrication allows for swift construction, minimizing resource consumption during the temporary build. Finally, after serving its purpose for approximately one year, the containers can be dismantled and reused on future Transcon projects, promoting a circular economy.
The inspiration behind the project was driven by the idea to have an innovative, reusable, semi-permanent structure that would minimize the environmental impact. The use of shipping containers demonstrates our dedication to sustainability and innovative design solutions.
Shraddha Kedia-Agarwal, Director, Transcon Developers
The prefabricated shipping containers used in the project were sourced from local suppliers who specialize in repurposing and refurbishing used containers. Shipping containers are robust and durable, making them an excellent choice for temporary offices like site offices. Additionally, containers can be easily modified to include insulation, windows, doors, and other necessary features, making them highly adaptable for office use. Their modular nature also allows for rapid construction and easy relocation if needed.

The chic interior layout was carefully planned to maximise natural light and create an open, airy atmosphere. Sustainable materials and finishes were chosen to enhance both aesthetics and functionality. Glass wool was sandwiched in between the container walls and gypsum board with framing for sound and heat insulation. The gypsum boards were painted to look like finished walls from the inside to achieve the interior comfort of an air-conditioned office space.
