Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of India's fastest-growing green building states, with 638 IGBC-registered projects encompassing a registered green building footprint of 627.58 million sq. ft. Of these, 300 projects covering 479.60 million sq. ft. have already achieved IGBC certification. The State's green building movement today spans commercial (438), residential (57), industrial and logistics (37), built environment (18), transit infrastructure (83), and Net Zero (5) projects, demonstrating the growing adoption of sustainable development across multiple sectors. This progress reflects the State's strong policy support and the increasing commitment of developers, industries, and public institutions towards building a greener, more resilient Andhra Pradesh.
The inaugural session was graced by Guest of Honour, Shri Suresh Kumar S, IAS, Principal Secretary, MA&UD, Government of Andhra Pradesh; Shri Vijay Rama Raju V, IAS, Commissioner, APCRDA; Mr. C Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, IGBC; Mr. Dasari Anwesh, Vice Chairman, CII Vijayawada Zone, Director, Efftronics Systems Pvt Ltd; Mr. Vijaya Sai Meka, Chairman, IGBC Amaravati Chapter; Mr. Kiran Kumar Paruchuri, Co-Chair, IGBC Amaravati Chapter; and senior representatives from government and industry.
A major highlight of the Summit was the announcement of enhanced Government incentives to accelerate the adoption of green buildings across Andhra Pradesh. The Government of AP has extended additional discounts on Development Charges for green buildings certified under IGBC. Under the revised policy, IGBC-certified projects under Silver rating will receive a 5% discount, Gold rating projects a 10% discount, and Platinum rating will receive a 15% discount on Development Charges, over and above the green building incentives—Impact and AP RERA Fees (10%, 15%, and 20% reduction for silver, gold, and platinum respectively), already available. The incentives will be granted at the building permission stage based on pre-certification, with final certification required before occupancy, reaffirming the Government's commitment to promoting resource-efficient, climate-resilient and sustainable urban development across the State.
Speaking in his Inaugural video message, Shri Dr Ponguru Narayana, Hon'ble Minister, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said, "Andhra Pradesh is building a development model where economic growth and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. Amaravati is being developed as a future-ready green capital that reflects the highest standards of climate resilience, resource efficiency and smart urban planning. We welcome IGBC's continued partnership in helping Andhra Pradesh become one of India's foremost leaders in green buildings and Net Zero development."
The Summit highlighted Andhra Pradesh's remarkable progress in embedding sustainability into urban planning, public infrastructure, industrial development and mobility. Today, the State has over 638 IGBC-registered green building projects covering nearly 627.58 million sq. ft., making it one of India's fastest-growing green building markets. The portfolio spans include residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, healthcare, hospitality and public infrastructure projects, along with five Net Zero projects, demonstrating that sustainability has become central to Andhra Pradesh's development agenda.
Shri Suresh Kumar S, IAS, Principal Secretary, MA&UD, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said, " Resources are finite, and the building and construction sector has a significant environmental footprint. As a State, we believe growth and sustainability must go hand in hand. We must attract investments while ensuring that development remains green and future-ready. Under the Swarna Andhra 2047 vision, our goal is to create a globally benchmarked, sustainable Andhra Pradesh through a holistic agenda, system-based transformation, fiscal resilience, and responsible private sector participation. Green buildings are now gaining widespread market acceptance, and our next objective is to make them the new normal. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has therefore introduced a first-of-its-kind incentive in India by offering development fee concessions for IGBC-rated green buildings to encourage wider adoption. While green buildings may require an additional investment of just 2–3% during construction, the savings in energy, water, and operational costs typically recover this investment within just a few years, with the benefits continuing throughout the building's life cycle. Sustainable construction is not an added cost—it is a long-term investment in our future."
Another highlight of the Summit was the release of the "Guide for Green Buildings in Andhra Pradesh", developed by IGBC as a handbook to support developers, architects, urban local bodies (ULBs) and government departments in adopting green building practices across the State. The guide provides comprehensive information on IGBC project registration, membership, certification processes and incentives announced by the Government of Andhra Pradesh for eligible green building projects. The summit also celebrated Amaravati receiving the IGBC Green Cities Platinum Certification (by design), reaffirming its position as India’s pioneering green capital. The summit also recognised several exemplary projects such as the APCPDCL Vidyut Nilayam Corporate Office for achieving the IGBC Net Zero Energy Rating (by Design), Best Western Plus Tejvivaan for its IGBC Green Existing Building Gold Rating, and Sarda Metals & Alloys Ltd. for achieving the IGBC Green Factory Building Platinum Rating, for their outstanding contribution to sustainable development.

The day featured a series of high-impact sessions on policy, sustainable urban development, global Net Zero practices, innovative construction technologies and low-carbon building materials. Experts from government, industry and international institutions shared practical insights on creating climate-resilient cities, scaling green infrastructure and accelerating the transition towards Net Zero development in Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. C Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), said, “As of today, 17 state government providing incentives for IGBC-certified green buildings, which has amplified the green building movement through 20,012 IGBC-registered projects accounting to over 16.33 billion sq. ft. of registered green building footprint. This makes India the second largest green building footprint in the world. Andhra Pradesh is demonstrating how progressive policies and strong collaboration between the Government and industry can accelerate the green building movement. Today, the State has over 638 IGBC-registered projects with 627.58 million sq. ft., reflecting the growing confidence of developers and institutions in sustainable development. As green buildings become increasingly mainstream, we should also begin exploring the idea of making green building certification and sustainability standards an integral part of the development process. Just as quality certifications and standardization have enhanced credibility and accelerated adoption across industries, mainstreaming green building standards can significantly improve environmental performance while creating healthier, more efficient, and future-ready developments. IGBC remains committed to supporting Andhra Pradesh in this journey through its 33 Green and Net Zero Rating Systems, technical expertise, and capacity-building initiatives."
The Summit also reinforced Andhra Pradesh's leadership in Net Zero development through the recognition of landmark projects, including the APCRDA Project Office, the first government building in Amaravati to achieve IGBC Net Zero Energy Certification (By Design). The project demonstrates how renewable energy integration, energy-efficient systems and smart building technologies can significantly reduce environmental impact while delivering operational efficiency.
The event concluded with the IGBC Green Crusaders & Valedictory Session, recognizing projects, developers, and organizations driving the green building movement across the State. More than 40 new projects covering over 1 Crore Sq. ft., of Built-Up-Area were registered during the summit under the IGBC Green Crusaders initiative, further strengthening Andhra Pradesh's growing green building footprint and reaffirming the commitment of developers, industries and public institutions towards sustainable growth.
As Andhra Pradesh advances towards its vision of Swarna Andhra 2047, the State is increasingly positioning itself as a national model for sustainable urbanization, climate-resilient infrastructure and Net Zero development. Through strong government leadership, progressive policies and continued collaboration with CII-IGBC, Andhra Pradesh is demonstrating how sustainability can become a powerful driver of long-term economic growth and improved quality of life.
