Tile manufacturer Asian Granito India Limited (AGIL) has forayed into the sanitaryware segment with an initial investment of around ₹8 crore, informed managing director Mukesh Patel. The company will start with 160 skus of washbasins, water closets (WCs), and urinals and will expand the range gradually. AGIL is targeting a turnover of ₹80-100 crore from this segment over the next 4-5 years. It will be launching commercial operations in June 2019 pan-India and will set up its own manufacturing in the second phase. It is launching sanitary-ware in the mid and mid-premium segments under the brand AGL; products will be sourced from domestic markets as well as imported from Europe and China in Phase-I.

The sanitaryware industry in India is estimated at around ₹4,500 crore and growing at around 10-12% annually. The Morbi cluster in Gujarat accounts for about 65-70% of Indian tiles and sanitaryware products, with more than 800 factories in the region
