The 11th edition of the Green Building Congress, Asia's largest conference & exhibition on green buildings, which will be held at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, from 24-26th October 2013, is slated to take the national green sentiment to new heights. The three days event will apprise the participants of the latest global trends in green buildings, provide a platform for networking, facilitate exploring new business opportunities, and enable market transformation of green products and equipment. Moreover, visitors can get a touch and feel experience of the latest green products and technologies across a gamut of industry verticals.

Organised by the Indian Green Building Council and the Confederation of Indian Industry, the event is being sponsored by corporate giants such as Blue Star, Tata Housing, DLF, Daikin, Carrier, Grundfos, and Godrej to name a few. Notably, the event is being supported by various organizations such as CREDAI, AIGMF, ASHRAE, Good Governance India Foundation, Institute of Indian Interior Designers, IFMA, IPA, and a slew of international green building councils including Sri-Lanka, Indonesia, UK, Emirates, Jordan, and Colombia.


Reportedly, more than 2,000 delegates along with over 100 exhibitors both including domestic and international will be attending the Green Building Congress. Based on the success of the previous editions of the show, the organizers have anticipated a visitor footfall in excess of 5,000. What makes the show a must visit is the fact that it will witness the convergence of globally renowned torch bearers of the green campaign, who will apprise the audience with their experiences, views, and of course, suggestions and recommendations.

B K Chemtech Engineering

Bangalore-based B K Chemtech Engineering, a leading name in designing and building automated machines and plants in various industrial fields, will promote a new and innovative Advanced Building System called M2 which is the brand name for EMMEDUE of Italy. "This building concept has been in use for almost 35 years in Europe, South America, Africa, Middle East, and the Far East. We now wish to showcase it to the Indian Construction Industry. M2 is highly cost effective, light weight, and time saving in terms of construction time," informs Mr. Stefano Soriani, Export Sales Manager for India.

Notably, B K has forged technological collaborations with many foreign companies and some of its significant offerings include complete extrusion plants for aluminium, nitrogen cooling of extrusion dies, die cleaning systems, anodizing and powder coating plants, polishing and brushing machines and handling systems, and automated machines for aluminium, steel and plastic.

Saint Gobain Glass India

Saint Gobain Glass India will showcase a vast range of Energy Efficient Super Selectivity products such as, SGG Evo, SGG Nano, SGG Nano Silver, and SGG Envision. Mr. Sravan Kumar, the company's Marketing Manager informs, "World Green Building Congress has always been an apt platform for us to display and exhibit our state-of-the-art energy efficient glazing solutions. This year too, we are showcasing newer products and technologies that help reduce carbon footprint."

According to him, Saint Gobain is highly upbeat on the event and expects an overwhelming response. "WGBC is the flagship event for the green technologies and green products. It is an ideal location for us to showcase our green product portfolio. We are sure, it will be a perfect meeting ground for the various stakeholders of the Green Building Industry," he says.

Kirloskar Brothers Ltd.

According to him, KBL's main aim is to showcase the sustainable fluid handling solutions for building & construction industry. "We are also using this platform to create awareness amongst the consultants & end-users about these products and also promote the green movement in the country. We would like to interact with our key stakeholders and display our sustainable products range. We will also demonstrate the benefits of using energy efficient products and promote the cause of sustainability. The enhanced use of energy efficient products will definitely help in sustaining the environment."

FII India

Forestry Innovation Consulting India Pvt Ltd (FII India) was established in Mumbai in 2012 as a subsidiary company of the Forestry Innovation Investment (FII), a non-profit organization funded by the government of British Columbia, Canada. Notably, FII was established in 2003 to promote British Columbia's forest products such as lumber, panels, specialty products, and pulp and paper across the world. The organization works collaboratively with the Government of Canada. A strong emphasis is also placed on research activities to help enhance and deliver relevant market development programs.

British Columbia is unique among the world's leading forest producers because 94% of its land base is publicly owned, and forest activities on public land must follow strict forest management laws. The forests are backed by independent third party forest certification systems, providing a high degree of oversight and confidence in sustainable forest management practices. The government ensures that companies operating in the province work to the highest international standards and practices when growing, harvesting and manufacturing forest products.


Mr. Brian Leslie, Technical Advisor – Wood Products India says, "While FII works on promotions in several countries, India is a priority market we are seeking to develop. We strive to increase awareness of British Columbia wood products (through seminars, trade shows and exhibitions). This can provide a sustainable, environmentally friendly alternative for the Indian customer. Secondly, we also provide information and technical advice to companies seeking supply of wood products from BC. Thirdly, we support customers in India to source wood species. We also assist Canadian lumber companies seeking to establish trade with India by providing information, research and advice."


On why GBC 2013 is an important forum for FII India, he continues, "We always look forward to supporting the 'Green Building' movement taking into account the positive environmental impact of wood products sourced from sustainable forests."

Godrej & Boyce

Godrej & Boyce, one of the leading conglomerates in the country, is all set to add to the green sentiment by showcasing a handful of energy efficient appliances and green furniture at the Green Building Congress 2013. What's more, the company which offers Green Building Consultancy Services, will look forward to further strengthen its presence in this vertical by fostering ties with a diverse category of visitors and participants.


Mr. Rumi Engineer, Sr. GM & Business Head – Godrej Green Building Consultancy Services, informs, "True to our mission of protection and preservation of environment, we have developed products and services that help conserve natural resources. We intend to exhibit these Green products and services.

Talking of his expectations from the show and how it will propel the Green Movement in the country, he says, "We intend to display and create awareness about our capabilities and expertise in the Green Building Arena. Every year this platform helps us in delivering quality products and services to the Developer fraternity, who wish to develop Green Buildings, thus propelling the Green Movement in the country."

Noida-based SCS India Pvt Ltd, a certified B corp, has been a global leader in 3rd party certification services for nearly 30 years. The company is accredited to provide services under a wide range of nationally and internationally recognized certification standards. Notably, the certification services fall under categories of Natural Resources, Climate, Green Products, Food & Agriculture, and Sustainability.

"To accomplish our mission, our programs and services are oriented towards promoting management system certification, product certification, inspection, validations and verification in accordance with the applicable certification standards; assisting industry and commerce to implement relevant systems and adopt practices that minimize impacts on human health and the environment; delivering world-class assessments and certification services; systematic and continual monitoring of market situations and regulatory requirements; continually improving our services to meet multi-stakeholder demands."

According to her, SCS' objective of participating in the Green Building Congress 2013 is to recognize the outstanding achievements of companies, institutions and organizations who are meeting the highest levels of performance in environment protection, social responsibility, product safety and quality, and carry out audits and provide internally recognized third party certifications of SCS. "It includes orientation of the most suitable internationally accepted and recognized, environmental and sustainable certification program of SCS, to the green building material manufacturers and suppliers."

She continues, "From the very beginning, we are offering various types of certification and verification services in order to conserve natural resources. The 3rd party certification for an environmental claim ensures that the product conserves natural resources, ensures the honesty and accuracy of manufacturer's claims, independent testing, certification, and auditing – entire claim is completely transparent, and avoiding green washing by companies."

BPS-Building Protection Systems

Bangalore-based BPS Building Protection Systems Pvt Ltd, which is participating in the Green Building Congress for the fourth time, is looking forward to expand its clientele in the country. "We are keen that more companies adopt our products which are not only green, but also extremely cost-effective, thereby breaking the myth that going green is expensive. Our alternatives are not only greener but also cheaper," informs Mr. Aditya Kaura, the company's Director.

He continues, "This year, we would like to showcase some additional products like Hydretain and KristalBond." Notably, Hydretain is a root zone moisture management product which effectively reduces the overall watering requirements of plants, shrubs, trees, turf and agriculture by as much as 50% or more. It is a liquid group of hygroscopic and humectant components that attract moisture that would otherwise be lost to evaporation at the root zone level. On the other hand, Kristalbond is a transparent glass coating for energy savings. "Many buildings today have glass facades which allow a lot of daylight, but result in a lot of energy consumption for air conditioning. Our product is cheaper than a double gazing alternative and also ensures that 75% light pass through with 90% IR block and 99% UV Block."

Meanwhile, the company is highly upbeat on Insuladd, which is a Thermally Insulating Paint Additive, which, when added to paint, results in a cool roof coating with energy savings in the range of 10-20%. "Compliant with IGBC green rating norms, this product has been applied in over 2 million sqaure feet of roof area in India and top corporates in India have used this product," he informs.

Pidilite

Pidilite will showcase its range of Low VOC adhesives for various HVAC and Wood Working applications. Mr. A Venkitachalam, Head - Business Development, informs, "Pidilite Industries, the pioneers in the field of adhesives and sealants, has in its range Fevicol Ecofresh – the first water based adhesive for HVAC applications, Fevicol AC Ductking Lag Coating AF 5590 – vapour barrier coating for HVAC applications, and Fevicol Insulkote – water based bituminous adhesive apart from various low VOC wood working solutions."

According to him, the main objective of the conglomerate's participation in the Green Building Congress 2013 is to inform the construction world that Pidilite is a part of the green movement, by offering green solutions to various applications. "To create awareness amongst various stake holders of the availability of adhesives meeting stringent IGBC norms for various applications from the staple of Pidilite Industries."

"These kinds of exhibitions will enhance the awareness and visibility of Low VOC products (green products) available in India for successful green movement," he remarks.

FMC

FMC India Pvt. REHAU, a global leading system and service provider for polymer-based solutions in construction, automotive and industry will showcase cooling panels, radiant heating and cooling system, rain water harvesting system, uPVC windows, plumbing & piping system and geo-thermal system. Notably, REHAU has been in India since 1998 with a manufacturing set-up in Pune, Maharashtra to cater local industries.
