The Confederation of Indian Industry – Indian Green Building Council (CII IGBC) successfully organized the Madhya Pradesh Sustainability Conclave on 25 April 2026 in Indore. Held at Marriott Hotel, the conclave centred on the theme “Driving Green Growth, Climate Resilience & Responsible Urban Development” and brought together policymakers, industry leaders, urban planners, and sustainability experts to deliberate on strategies to accelerate green building adoption and sustainable urbanization in the state.

Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a frontrunner in sustainable development, with a green building footprint of over 510 million sq. ft and more than 549 IGBC-registered projects across sectors including commercial, residential, industrial, logistics, and transit infrastructure. The conclave served as a strategic platform to discuss progressive policy frameworks, emerging technologies, and collaborative approaches aimed at enhancing resource efficiency and strengthening climate resilience in the built environment.

The inaugural session was graced by Shri Sanjay Dubey (IAS) Additional Chief Secretary Urban Development and Housing Dept., Govt of Madhya Pradesh; Dr Parikshit Zade, IAS Chief Executive Office, Indore Development Corporation, MP Government along with Mr. Sandeep Shrivastav, President, CREDAI Indore; Mr. C Shekar Reddy, National Chairman IGBC; Mr. Saurabh Singh Mehta, Vice Chairman, CII Madhya Pradesh State Council and Executive Director, Kriti Nutrients Ltd; Ar Jitendra Mehta, National Executive Board Member, IGBC; Mr. Vinod Bapna, Chairman, IGBC Indore Chapter & Managing Director, Bonton Furniture Pvt Ltd; Mr. Kushagra Agrawal, Co - Chair, IGBC Indore Chapter & Director, Apollo Creation Pvt Ltd, and distinguished dignitaries from industry and academia.

Delivering the keynote address, Shri Sanjay Dubey, (IAS) Additional Chief Secretary Urban Development and Housing Dept., Govt of MP emphasized the importance of integrated governance in achieving sustainability goals. He noted that Madhya Pradesh continues to prioritize sustainability by aligning policy frameworks with technological innovation to enable environmentally responsible and inclusive urban growth. “Madhya Pradesh is firmly committed to embedding sustainability at the core of urban development. By aligning policy frameworks with technological innovation, we aim to accelerate climate resilience and ensure our cities are not only smart and efficient, but also environmentally responsible and inclusive. We are actively considering incentives for IGBC Silver and Gold rated projects, along with constructive suggestions on rebates and concessions, which are under examination. The State is also in the process of revising building bye-laws to further enable green construction practices, while placing strong emphasis on expanding urban green spaces and promoting the use of sustainable building materials.”

The conclave witnessed active participation from government officials and industry stakeholders, with focused deliberations on green infrastructure, smart cities, energy efficiency, and sustainable housing. Discussions highlighted the importance of embedding environmental considerations into urban planning in alignment with India’s broader sustainability and net-zero commitments.

Dr. Parikshit Zade, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Indore Development Corporation, highlighted Indore’s progressive approach to sustainable urban development. He elaborated on key initiatives, including incentives for IGBC-rated green buildings, renewable energy adoption, circular economy models, and large-scale efforts to enhance urban green cover. He stated, “Indore is steadily advancing towards becoming a climate-resilient and carbon-neutral city through a combination of progressive policy interventions, regulatory incentives, and on-ground sustainability initiatives. From incentivizing IGBC-rated green buildings through additional FAR and mandating green compliance under the Master Plan 2035, to investing in renewable energy through the 60 MW Jalud Solar Plant and pioneering circular economy models such as the PPP-based green waste processing plant, the city is embedding sustainability across urban development. Our continued focus on expanding green cover, promoting clean energy, and leveraging innovative financing mechanisms like green bonds reflects a long-term commitment to creating a healthier, more sustainable urban ecosystem. Moving forward, sustained collaboration between government, industry, and citizens will be key to driving this transformation at scale.”

In his special address, Mr. C Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, IGBC, highlighted the critical role of green buildings in shaping future-ready cities. He stated, “Indore, widely recognized for its leadership in urban cleanliness and innovation, continues to set benchmarks under the Swachh Survekshan through efficient waste management systems, extensive door-to-door collection, and pioneering initiatives such as bio-CNG plants powering public transport. As a leading Smart City, it exemplifies how strong governance and active citizen participation can drive climate-resilient growth, offering a replicable model for emerging urban centres. This conclave reflects that spirit by bringing together policy, innovation, and industry to accelerate sustainable development. Madhya Pradesh has already emerged as a hub of green excellence, with a significant share of projects achieving IGBC Platinum and Gold ratings, surpassing national trends. IGBC remains committed to strengthening this momentum through capacity building, policy engagement, and global partnerships, and is confident that this platform will catalyze actionable outcomes towards a greener and more sustainable future for the state.”

Mr. Vinod Bapna, Chairman, IGBC Indore Chapter, emphasized that Indore’s success reflects the power of strong governance and community participation. “Indore has demonstrated how strong governance, citizen participation, and sustainable practices can transform a city. This conclave is a platform to take these learnings forward and replicate them across Madhya Pradesh, driving holistic and responsible urban development.” Mr. Kushagra Agrawal, Co-Chair, IGBC Indore Chapter, emphasized the need for collective action among stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of green building practices across the state. “The future of sustainable development lies in collaboration between policymakers, developers, and technology providers. Through this conclave, we are enabling meaningful dialogue and actionable solutions that will accelerate the adoption of green building practices across the state.”

The conclave featured a panel discussion on “Climate-Resilient Urban Growth & High-Performance Built Environment for Indore and Madhya Pradesh,” which explored strategies for integrating climate resilience into urban planning and infrastructure development. Experts from AKA Consultant, Saint Gobain, Becquer Energy, Scientech Technologies Pvt. Ltd, StarShield, Member of Administrative Committee IIA National, Indian Plumbing Association (Indore Chapter), HydroGen MEP Consultants and Studio23 discussed the importance of resource-efficient systems, sustainable materials, and long-term planning to ensure environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness. A technical session on “Innovative & Sustainable Solutions for MP’s Built Environment” showcased cutting-edge advancements in green building technologies, including energy-efficient systems, smart building solutions, and materials designed to mitigate environmental impact. The session highlighted how innovation is making sustainable construction more accessible and cost-effective.

The conclave concluded with a strong call to action for all stakeholders to work collaboratively towards a unified sustainability agenda. The event reaffirmed IGBC’s commitment to supporting Madhya Pradesh in its journey towards climate resilience, green growth, and responsible urban development.
