The historic city of Jaipur in Rajasthan will turn greener during 4-7 October 2017, when green building thought leaders, CEOs, practioners, technology providers, national and international stakeholders from the construction industry and other sectors will be converging in Jaipur to discuss and deliberate various emerging green building concepts, trends and technologies at Green Building Congress 2017- India’s annual flagship event on green buildings. The theme for the 15th edition is ‘Sustainable-built environment for all’.

Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of CII, aspires to enable a sustainable built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the global leaders in sustainable built environment by 2025. A step towards this direction was the institutionalizing of the Green Building Congress in 2001. Since then, Green Building Congress has played a vital role in the spread and growth of green buildings in the country.

So far, IGBC, with over 4.63 billion sq.ft. has facilitated India to become the 2nd country in the world in terms of largest registered green building footprint, with projects spread across the country. These include government offices, commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals, schools, cities, metro stations, and malls. IGBC aspires to facilitate 10 billion sq.ft by the year 2022 (75th year of India’s Independence) and Green Building Congress will continue to play a catalytic role in making this a reality.

India is seeing unprecedented urban expansion, which is widespread across all cities. The impact on our natural resources, especially water, energy, and air, is very much evident as the cities are facing enormous pressure to deal with the fast depleting resources.

We must fast capture the opportunities to mitigate these pressures through eco-friendly initiatives and construction of green and sustainable buildings. The regulatory framework for green building in the National Building Code, along with voluntary codes and green building rating systems, provides adequate guidelines for such constructions and building materials.

It is also imperative to develop standards for green building materials and their source. Capabilities in designing and constructing green buildings need to be encouraged and further strengthened. The high cost of green construction is perceived as a deterrent to many builders and buyers. This calls for dissemination of well-researched information on the actual costs incurred, along with the long-term cost benefits that will be accrued over the lifespan of a green building.

The 3-day event will be marked by international conference, exhibition and concurrent sessions. As part of the Green Building Congress 2017, IGBC will also be hosting the ‘Annual Members Meet’ and ‘Board Meeting of the World Green Building Council’. Building industry leaders from over 75 countries, along with the Chair, CEO and Board Members of the WorldGBC will be attending the meet. Focus areas will be: Affordable housing, Data Centers, Healthcare, Green villages, Sustainable mobility, Performance monitoring of green buildings, Landscaping & biodiversity, Case studies & best practices.
