Harnessing Light Intelligently

Signify's Interact is a secure, scalable IoT platform that collects insights from connected LED lighting systems, embedded sensor networks to deliver information, business value and new services to customers, thereby transforming life in homes, buildings and public spaces

Sumit Padmakar JoshiSumit Padmakar Joshi
Signify (formerly known as Philips Lighting), launched its new Internet of Things (IoT) platform 'interact' in January 2019 at New Delhi. Designed to unlock the full potential of connected lighting with new insights, and help users drive operational efficiencies, it will help company's deliver new data-enabled services as value expands from lighting products and systems to services.

Signify has already installed 29 million connected light points worldwide and plans for every new LED product it produces to be connectable by 2020. This growing number of connected light points, sensors and devices, as well as systems, can collect large volumes of data for which Interact was designed to handle. The highly secure, scalable cloud-based Interact platform uses sophisticated and modern data management and data processing capabilities, including machine learning which will deliver benefits beyond illumination to customers.

It also offers a growing suite of licensed open application program interfaces (APIs), which will foster innovation from third-party developers, development partners and customers, enabling various data-enabled services to be developed. A typical example is occupancy data from different buildings, combined and analyzed to help managers understand and predict how people use office space. Such insights can help deliver savings by optimizing the use of existing office space and support better designed, more efficient buildings.

In addition, data from authorized third-parties can also be analyzed by Interact. For example, for a municipal authority, news articles and social media posts, reacting to a new lighting installation on a bridge, can be analyzed and data sent to a social impact app dashboard that summarizes the public sentiment.
Now that light points are smart enough to collect data on their performance and the environment around them, we are tapping into that intelligence. By analyzing the data from our connected lights, devices and systems, our goal is to create safer cities, energy-efficient buildings and industries and smarter retail stores in the country.

Sumit Padmakar Joshi, Vice Chairman & MD, Signify Innovations India Limited

Philips lighting products are now being manufactured and marketed under Signify, which was established as a separate company since May 2018, and is currently leading the lighting business in more than 70 countries around the globe.

Hue Smart Lighting

Hue ambient lighting makes it convenient for users to turn off all the lights in the house with a single tap, or transform the atmosphere of their living room into a home cinema, or select the optimal light to help them concentrate better. And even when away, they can program the lights to make it seem like they are at home, and thus discourage intruders. Hue lights can mimic the sunrise to help users wake up more naturally, or select a reddish hue to relax into sleep. The Hue app can be used like an alarm clock to program regular wake-up and bed times.

LiFi

Signify LiFi is a two-way, high-speed wireless technology similar to WiFi, but uses light waves instead of radio waves to transmit data. Each luminaire has a built-in modem that modulates the light, which is detected by a LiFi USB key/dongle plugged into a laptop or PC. The LiFi USB dongle returns data to the luminaire through an infrared link. Signify LiFi-enabled luminaires give users dual benefits of energy-efficient LED lighting, and a highly secure, stable and robust connection, as LiFi has 10,000 times the spectrum of WiFi.

Luminous Carpets

Luminous Carpets can be easily integrated with other connected cutting-edge LED lights and internet-related technology. The high-performance carpets can display bright graphics, or dynamic moving messages and images by a simple touch of the smartphone or tablet. They can be used to greet and guide hotel guests, draw in crowds at exhibitions with eye-catching floor displays, attention-grabbing signs and animations at tradeshows, in cinema halls and hallways to direct people to toilets, exits and meeting rooms, during an emergency to help people find an alternative escape route, etc.

Luminous Textile Panel

Signify Luminous Textile Panel lets you blend light, color, texture and video to create standout interiors. Available in a wide range of sizes, the panels can be selected to fit any dimension of the space and can be controlled from a computer or mobile device. Featuring energy-efficient LED technology and Kvadrat Soft Cells, they also improve acoustics, making them both practical and visually impressive. Users can create stunning feature walls or light defusing ceilings. The panels can be simply mounted and plugged in, using just two cables as all electronics are integrated.
