Urban Revamp

Government has finalized plans to rejuvenate 500 cities, turning them to smart cities. The Centre has approved outlay of nearly Rs. 1 lakh-cr to make cities more livable. A sum of Rs. 48,000cr has been earmarked for this purpose. 100 cities under this plan will receive Rs. 100cr per year for five years. A special purpose vehicle will be created for each city to implement Smart City action plan. Public -private model is to be used by states and urban bodies to mobilize private investment. Under the smart city mission, an attempt is to be made to recast the urban landscape of the country. Under this plan, each state is expected to get at least one smart city.
