Addressing the gathering, Dr. P. Krishnaiah, I.A.S (Retd.), Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board, stated, “The CII GreenCo Rating framework is enabling manufacturing industries to enhance environmental performance across key areas such as energy, water, waste, and circularity. With wider adoption of such green frameworks, Sri City has the potential to emerge as a model green and circular industrial ecosystem.”
The initiative has been positioned as a critical step in aligning Andhra Pradesh’s rapid industrial growth with environmental stewardship. Through a structured collaboration between APPCB and CII, the state has introduced a comprehensive ecosystem to encourage industries and developers to voluntarily adopt globally benchmarked green standards. This effort has been aligned with the broader vision of fostering a resource-efficient, low-carbon, and globally competitive industrial economy.
Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Sri City (P) Ltd., emphasized the role of industrial ecosystems in driving this transition: “Sri City, as the first industrial park to achieve IGBC Gold rating, has consistently demonstrated its commitment to sustainability. Going forward, widespread adoption of the CII GreenCo Rating by industries within Sri City can position it as a benchmark green-rated industrial park for the nation.”
A key highlight of the initiative is the robust set of incentives announced by the Andhra Pradesh Government to drive participation in the GreenCo and IGBC rating systems. Industries achieving GreenCo ratings have been made eligible for automatic renewal and one-year extension of Consent to Operate (CTO), subject to compliance performance. This measure has significantly reduced regulatory uncertainty while rewarding environmentally responsible operations.
Additionally, GreenCo-rated companies have been accorded formal recognition through state-level award platforms, enhancing their brand equity and market positioning. The policy provides preferential consideration for products manufactured by GreenCo-rated units in government procurement processes, thereby integrating sustainability into public purchasing frameworks. Enhanced visibility through official platforms of APPCB and CII have also been extended to such companies, amplifying their leadership in environmental performance.
Mr. Nihal Kaul, Chairman, GreenCo South AP Forum, said “The adoption of the GreenCo Rating empowers industries to move beyond compliance and embrace performance-driven sustainability. I urge industries in the South AP cluster to actively participate and collectively drive this joint initiative of APPCB and CII GreenCo.”
The GreenCo rating system, recognized as one of the world’s most comprehensive frameworks for evaluating industrial environmental performance, has been positioned as a catalyst for driving measurable improvements across energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and carbon reduction.
The session concluded with a strong call to action for industries, and all stakeholders to actively participate in the initiative and leverage the state’s incentive framework. It was emphasized that Andhra Pradesh, through this integrated policy and industry collaboration, had set a national benchmark for enabling sustainable industrialization while maintaining high economic growth momentum.
The initiative was widely regarded as a model for other states, demonstrating how regulatory facilitation, financial incentives, and industry engagement could collectively accelerate the transition toward a greener and more resilient economy.
