Grundfos-India

Grundfos India is proud to announce that its Chennai facility has become the world’s first pump manufacturing site to receive the prestigious TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Platinum Certification for zero waste—the highest level of recognition demonstrating exceptional sustainability and resource efficiency.

A global benchmark for organisations that go beyond compliance, TRUE certification, accorded by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), encourages the adoption of holistic, resource-efficient waste management practices. The framework guides organisations in implementing strategies that reduce environmental impact, manage risks, reinvest resources, and create long-term business value.

The Chennai facility is the first among Grundfos’ global operations to achieve this milestone. The certification process evaluated multiple functions, including packaging, environment, health and safety, supplier management (both direct and indirect), and landscape maintenance. Key initiatives contributing to this achievement include:

  • Optimised product design: Minimising resource consumption and waste generation, especially in engineered-to-order pumps and systems.
  • Sustainable procurement: Reducing environmental impact from the sourcing stage.
  • Supplier collaboration: Promoting pallet reuse and optimising packaging materials for upstream waste reduction.
  • Holistic zero-waste policies: Extending sustainability practices beyond organisational boundaries.
  • Employee engagement: Fostering a culture of sustainability through training programs and kaizen initiatives.

Through these collective efforts, Grundfos India achieved an impressive 98.2% diversion of waste from landfills, covering a wide range of materials such as wood, metal, plastic, e-waste, corrugated paper, landscaping debris, and food residue. This achievement marks another major step in Grundfos’ ongoing sustainability journey. In 2005, Grundfos India became the country’s first commercial Gold-rated green building certified by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Today, the facility holds LEED Platinum certification, and in 2024, it further advanced this legacy by achieving LEED Zero Water certification—reaffirming the company’s commitment to responsible water stewardship and environmental excellence.
