Vaishvi Hospital has emerged as a model of eco-conscious design and operations, setting benchmarks for future healthcare facilities. The hospital integrated several green strategies that enhance environmental performance, patient well-being, and operational efficiency.
Shreya Dalwadi, Chairperson, IGBC Vadodara Chapter, said, “Vaishvi Hospital, as an IGBC Green Certified project, represents the beginning of a new era of low-carbon footprint buildings. It reinforces the importance of considering lifecycle ownership costs alongside initial construction costs. By embracing green practices, the hospital management has demonstrated a deep sense of responsibility towards Mother Earth—benefits that are being experienced not only by the institution but also by its patients and occupants.”

Vaishvi Hospital incorporated a holistic set of strategies addressing energy, water, waste, indoor environmental quality, and wellness. These measures ensured significant resource savings while providing a healing, nature-connected environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Daylighting and Outdoor Views:
- The hospital achieved over 110 lux of daylight in 100% of regularly occupied and patient areas.
- 95% of the floor area received daylight access, reducing reliance on artificial lighting.
- Direct lines of sight to outdoor glazing were provided for 77.8% of patient areas and 86.02% of regularly occupied spaces, ensuring natural light and connection to the outdoors.
Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy:
- The facility realized 76% energy savings over the healthcare category baseline.
- A 20 kW onsite solar generation system was installed, producing clean energy for hospital operations.
- Energy-efficient systems were integrated throughout the hospital, significantly reducing carbon emissions.
Water Stewardship and Conservation:
- A rainwater harvesting system with a capacity of 8.9 cubic meters per day manages 100% of roof runoff and recharges groundwater.
- Efficient flush and flow fixtures achieved 12% water savings, aligning with IGBC water efficiency benchmarks.
- Rainwater was also directed for site-level management, reducing dependence on external sources.
Waste Management and Resource Recovery:
- An organic waste management facility converts food and organic waste into manure, creating a circular system.
- Waste segregation and recycling are conducted campus-wide to minimize landfill impact.
Occupant Wellness and Healing Spaces:
- Dedicated physical and mental stress-relief zones, including a Sports Rehabilitation Room, TV Room, Dining Room, and Music Room, cater comprehensively to 100% of staff requirements.
- The design promotes a healing environment where both patients and staff benefit from natural light, fresh air, and biophilic design principles.
Dr. Neha, Director, Vaishvi Hospitals, added, “The Earth has given us everything we need, and it is our responsibility to safeguard these resources for generations to come. Achieving Green Building Certification was not the end, but the beginning of a journey—a commitment to remain consistent, innovative, and responsible in all our actions. Every step we take today shapes a more sustainable and brighter tomorrow.”
The recognition of Vaishvi Hospital underscores a vital message: healthcare institutions are uniquely positioned to demonstrate the benefits of sustainable buildings, as patients experience improved recovery environments and staff benefit from enhanced wellness measures.
By adopting IGBC Green Healthcare standards, Vaishvi Hospital has demonstrated that:
- Going green lowers lifecycle costs by reducing energy and water bills.
- Patient experience improves through natural daylight, fresh air, and reduced exposure to indoor pollutants.
- Healthcare delivery becomes more resilient, supported by renewable energy and efficient resource management.
