When starting out as an Interior Designer, I conceptualized the largest toy and book library called Beetroot in Mumbai, followed by magnificent projects which were published in leading magazines. I believe in designing spaces that are transformational and healing and I like to give every endeavour my fullest commitment and integrity.
This is no secret that women face major challenges in their workspace - and the design world is no exception. We work with contractors, sub-contractors, builders, and construction workers. Since so many minds are involved, it often causes delays, confusion, and the need for constant communication. I have learnt that Time and Mind Management is key to getting work done effectively.
The biggest challenge we face with clients is to sell an imaginative existence with conviction - to make them see a space through the eyes of the designer, and to meet project completion timelines.
As regards women security, the design field doesn’t have any fixed working hours. Vendors are located in small internal local areas and are difficult to access easily. Most women are scared to take risks that might lead to failure.
As a design energist, I create spaces that connect with my clients both aesthetically and functionally; and I am proud to have made my place in the design world
With the increasing number of women entrepreneurs flourishing all over the world, gone are the days when women were underrated and under-represented. But my advice to would-be entrepreneurs is, be clear about your passion as it can make your profession stronger. Believe in yourself and your abilities. Keep learning as knowledge is power and the key to success. Most importantly, be consistent and remain focused.
