Global influence is indeed impacting Indian architecture in a huge way, for both good and bad. There is greater focus on aesthetics, sometimes at the cost of safety and functionality. Clients are becoming more demanding due to increased exposure to international designs. Interior designers are experimenting a lot more than before. More variety of materials are available now and are being used - sometimes, incorrectly, just for the sake of using.

Technologies like BIM and Rhino offer huge benefits.
BIM is huge! It offers massive benefits for everyone due to better conceptualization of buildings in the early stages, better coordination due to early conflict resolution while designing, lesser costs to designers over long term, faster generation of drawings, and lesser rework times. Currently, the higher costs are the only deterrent; however, it is only a matter of time when BIM becomes the mainstream software, especially for larger projects.

Rhino too is a brilliant software, but I can currently see its utilization limited only for parametric design. Its use appears to be limited to niche design elements, interior design, sculptural elements, and certain building features. Maybe some designers might try to use it for facade design and/or building design; however, the prohibitive costs of making such buildings might deter most developers. Also, until the construction industry matures adequately to accommodate parametric technology into their working, its extended use seems limited to the above.

I anticipate greater use of recycled materials.
In my opinion, trends keep changing ever year. Although sensitivity to using eco-friendly and natural materials is getting popular, the advancement in technology is making use of these materials redundant. I anticipate greater use of recycled materials that are cheaper, lighter, flexible and recyclable, and getting more popularity than traditional materials. Creative use of forms and selective use of traditional materials might gain popularity.

Precast, PEB, Drywall techniques will play a major role in the designing of buildings.
The new construction techniques like Precast, PEB, Drywall, etc will play a major role and have a lasting impact on architecture and designing of a building. Drywall industry is already growing at a two-digit rate year to year. The affordable housing scheme is gaining a lot of popularity and therefore, precast and tunnel form technologies are gaining massive importance due to their scaling ability.

While most sectors in India hold promising potential, infrastructure is particularly compelling because of the massive need for infrastructural development in the country. Additionally, affordable housing will see continued rise as the government’s budgetary support for these schemes has risen from ₹11,600 crore in FY16 to ₹29,043 crore in FY18.
