Facing a huge demand for housing and scarcity of land, London is all set to become a capital of skyscrapers, says report by London School of Economics. According to the report, three elements which are forcing developers to construct tall buildings are, the price of land, nice views and a competitive element among developers vying for the tallest structures. But there would instances of overbuilt structures. The 309 metre-high Shard, at first glance, is an obvious example of this over build. Similar examples include the 43–storey Starta SEI at South mark and a planned 68-storey South Quay Plaza residential development project. Soon London could surpass Monaco and Hong Kong, both of which have grown vertically due to geographical restrictions preventing horizontal growth, the report concluded.
