The requirement was for big windows and doors (openable and sliders) with integrated Georgian bars while using small pieces of DGU glass with black spacer. The biggest challenge was to manage and integrate 778 glasses into infills for the window and door system, and managing the load path for each piece of glass and the infill made of integration of the pieces.

Nexta Building Systems

An interesting fact was that we engaged the client in the design and shape of the profile. The onus was on us to produce the design as per his choice. Things went tricky for us when the client proposed the ‘step design’ in the profile, with many angles and curves.

In the Georgian bar concept, different sized small pieces of DGU glasses are assembled, and the connection of mullion and transom becomes very critical. This was a concern as the profile design had more than usual angles and curves. To achieve perfect integration in the tricky profile, we sourced some tools from a leading German manufacturer.

Integrating all the components into big infills for the window frames resulted in heavy loads. So, we used the old school method of transferring the weight of each glass towards the hinge side and used the packing in such a way that the resultant infill was a perfect rectangle. The successful fenestration of this project is an example of Nexta’s solution-based approach to any kind of project.
