Architects are exploring ways to bring nature indoors and using eco-friendly resources that foster sustainable living Ar. Robin Sisodiya, Asro Arcade

The inclusion of greenery and natural materials in indoor spaces offers residents better indoor air quality and optimized use of energy, resulting in productive spaces that emanate positivity. Material efficiency results in a healthier environment due to the limited release of carbon footprint. Stone, for instance, typically reduces energy consumption and emission of CO2; its use indoors helps improve the air quality, whilst being aesthetically pleasing.

At ASRO Arcade, we use handcrafted techniques for construction that ensure efficient use of natural resources while sustaining a better environment. In our residential projects, we have created spacious balconies to create an indoor-outdoor system and installed wooden lattice partitions to bring daylight into the interiors. Wood, being a renewable source, emits a low carbon footprint and is a low embodied energy.

Architects must not only take into consideration the technical aspects of a building’s construction but also the energy-efficiency parameters during the design phase

Buildings need to actively demonstrate ways of living in harmony with nature. Today, with the help of software, new materials and construction technologies, smart and efficient buildings are being conceptualized and created. The building façade, for instance, is being designed to percolate daylight, allow natural ventilation inside, and control heat conveyance, while creating a visual and physical connect between the indoor and the outdoor environment. It is being built with materials that augment its functionality, energy efficiency, insulation capacity, strength, and durability. The core idea is to make facades that work with nature rather than resist its influences.
