Full scale preparations are on to build country's largest city in the country by CIDCO. This could be much bigger than Mumbai and its suburbs out together. The city called—Naina—or Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area- is expected to be spread over 600 sq km or 60,000 hectares to house a population of 80 lakh in the next 30 years. The cost of developing this city could be roughly around Rs.3,500 per sq m, about Rs.2.1 lakh crore. This includes development of metro line and roads,etc and will be spread around a radial distance of about 25 kms from the proposed Navi Mumbai airport. Talking about the project, CIDCO vice chairman said that it would take the development of the proposed city in two phases.
