The Oscar Of Architecture — At the Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza will take place the award ceremony of Dedalo Minosse International Prize for commissioning a building. The event, promoted for 20 years by ALA Assoarchitetti in collaboration with the Veneto Region *, will be held in Vicenza on 22 and 23 June in the Palladian places, international symbol of architecture, made generously available by the City of Vicenza.

Dedalo Minosse Prize is unique in the world and recognizes the Client’s figure as fundamental and strategic in the constructive process. The recognition of a positive and stimulating role that creates, with architects’ ability, the good architecture.

Open to private and public clients from all over the world, the aim of the award is to select architecture works already finished, as good practice of the contemporary architecture research that confirms the quality given by a fruitful collaboration between the architect and the client.

Since its founding, the submissions for the Prize have been almost 8,000 with more than 50 participating countries. Over 200 events have been organized and 50 countries visited by the international roadshow.

Among the awarded architects in the past editions you can find famous international architects such as Gae Aulenti, Campo Baeza, Mario Botta, Guido Canali, Massimiliano Fuksas, Von Gerkan Marg Und Partner, Zaha Hadid, Kisho Kurokawa, Mecanoo, Manfredi Nicoletti, Erik Owen Moss, Dominique Perrault, Paul de Ruiter, Piero Sartogo, Studio Odile Decq, Oscar Tusquets, Claude Vasconi, Cino Zucchi.

The response to this edition of the Prize was great: 400 submissions were received from almost 40 different countries, including Argentina, Philippines, France, Germany, Japan, Great Britain, India, Peru, Portugal, Russia, United States, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Vietnam.

For this tenth edition, the International Jury, made up of architects, clients, artists, personalities and professionals of unquestionable authority and experience, has assign the following awards:
  • the Dedalo Minosse International Prize, to a Client who commissioned a professional Architect;
  • the Dedalo Minosse International Prize OCCAM - Under 40, to a Client who commissioned a young professional Architect;
  • the ALA-Assoarchitetti Prize- Fondazione Inarcassa, to a Client who commissioned an Italian professional architect;
  • the ALA-Assoarchitetti Prize Under 40, to a Client who commissioned a young Italian professional Architect;
This year is the 20th anniversary of the Prize and to celebrate it the Jury will also assign the Andrea Palladio International Prize to the Client who distinguished himself for his work in the last 20 years.

The Jury will also assign other special award, allocated by Patron bodies and sponsors.

In the judgement special attention has been dedicated to those works that have taken into account the following issues: social and economical sustainability; works inspired by Design for All; use of the natural light; enhancement and conservation of the environment, the landscape and the architectural heritage; use of innovative technologies and materials; use of renewable energy and resources; promotion of traditions and local languages; multidisciplinary planning approach; integration between art/architecture.

The selected candidates’ names are to be announced to the press during the Awards ceremony, which will take place in Vicenza on June 23rd 2017 at Teatro Olimpico. The awarded works will be exhibited from June 24th to July 16th 2017 at the Civic Museum Palazzo Chiericati (Vicenza, Italy).

Once again two Palladian places, made available by the City of Vicenza, host a kermesse that resembles the night of the Oscars, a kind of "walkway" of Client, architects, experts and enthusiasts who celebrate architecture, telling their stories. In twenty years, private and public Clients coming from over 30 countries have taken the stage of the Teatro Olimpico, in front of an audience of over 500 people.

In the past editions the Dedalo Minosse Prize awarded first-class Clients who have searched a value for the community in their architectural works. Among those: the governments of Denmark, England, Spain, France, Italy and Germany; the city of Amsterdam, Innsbruck, Hiroshima, Londra, Barcellona, Roma, Napoli, Palermo, Joannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, Berlino; institutions as United Nations’ agencies, European Space Agency, the National Trust of England, Emergency and WWF; the universities of Detroit, Baltimora, Los Angeles, Cordoba and the Politecnico di Milano; famous companies, as Porsche, Porsche, Citroen, BMW, Ferrero, Benetton, Nestlè, Vodafone, Snaidero who sought to create innovative and comfortable workplaces.

Starting from September 2017, a selection of the awarded projects will travel around the world for the next two years. The traveling exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in cooperation with national and international partners. The past editions of the Dedalo Minosse has been exhibited for example in

Italy in Bolzano, Milano, Foggia, Roma, Trieste, Venezia, Bologna, Torino and abroad in Tokyo, Manila, Bruxelles, Vienna, Mosca, Berkeley, San Francisco, Hanoi, Kiev, Riga, Pechino e Londra.

A welcome dinner for all the architects and clients at “Cava Cengelle” not far from Vicenza. Cava Cengelle is an amazing quarry for the extraction of the local yellow stone, with a carved gallery 4 km long.

At the award ceremony will be there as special guest the mountaineer Reinhold Messner. The Italian explorer and writer, known to the general public as being the first mountaineer in the world to climb all fourteen tops of the planet that exceed 8,000 meters above sea level, often on slopes or in exceptional conditions (one of these inspired the film Nanga Parbat). Messner will be the protagonist of one of the most important prizes of Dedalo, dedicated to the Messner Mountain Museum project.

Philippe Prost, architect and urbanist, professor at the Paris-Belleville National School of Architecture, will be among the awarded names. In 2006 he won the contest for the construction of the Army General Staff at the heart of the Ecole Militaire in Paris. Its agency has delivered an animation center in the old Bourg-les-Valence cartridge factory, named “2009 Silver Square”.
