Dilip Kumbhat, National President, Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE)
Elections to the Governing Body of ISLE for the 4-year term (2016-2020), were held recently, and the new office bearers were inducted in the GB meeting held on 13th October in Chennai. Details of the new office bearers are as follows:

Mr. Dilip Kumbhat, CEO, K-Lite is elected as President Governing Body, ISLE. He is an industrialist and a mechanical engineer from Chennai with more than 40 years in the manufacture of luminaires. Has held prestigious positions in industrial associations as President and Chairman in an Indian Government's joint sector company, CAIIUC in Ambattur. Conducted international exhibitions for Ambattur Industrial Estate Manufacturers Association under the banner 'ACMEE' and lighting exhibition Lii 2011 and Lii 2013. Was Chairman of Chennai State Centre of ISLE since inception till 2011 and Vice President of ISLE, Governing Body.

The other elected members of ISLE are Mr. Harabhandhu Mukherjee, Vice President, Dr. Rajat Mandal, Hon'y General Secretary, and Mr. R. Balasubramanian, Hon'y Treasurer.

The Indian Society of Lighting Engineers (ISLE) is a professional body in the field of illumination engineering, with a broad based membership of scientists, engineers, architects, academicians, researchers, designers, and other lighting professionals. ISLE is affiliated to the International Commission on Illumination, and is also a member of Lux Pacifica, a lighting body which represents 60% of the world population. It is closely associated with BIS, ELCOMA, Ministry of Non Conventional Energy, and department of Science and Technology.

The members of ISLE are represented in Development Council of Ministry of Industry, CII, Indian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturer Association, BIS, ELCOMA , National Physical Laboratory, Electrical Research and Development Association, etc. The objectives of the Society are:
  • Promoting the art, science and practice of illumination engineering services as associated with built and open environment for the benefit of the public in general.
  • Advancing education and research in illumination engineering and publishing useful results of this research.
  • Formulating lighting codes, guides and technical reports and publishing them along with newsletters, journals, and books on 'Illumination'.
  • Maintaining liaison and technical interaction with national/international organisations concerned with matters related to the science, technology, standardisation, and art in the field of lamps and lighting.
  • Co-operation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in their standardisation work in the field of lighting.
  • Providing guidance to young engineers for career improvement in illumination engineering.
  • Organizing exhibitions and trade fairs of lighting and allied industries.
The society has been organising International exhibitions under the banner, Light India International (Lii), and technical seminars for the benefit of the lighting fraternity, buyers, and industries involved in lighting components. All these activities have been accepted at the level of international standards.

ISLE is head quartered in Delhi and its activities are governed by a Governing Body (GB) with nine members, among whom, four are office bearers with a President, a Vice President, Hon'y General Secretary, and a Hon'y Treasurer. Local activities are managed by State Centres located in Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Indore, Chennai and Bangalore, and the State Centres have their own Chairman and other office bearers, and local centres at Pune, Guwahati, Bhubaneshwar and Hyderabad. The total strength of membership as on date is 3,480 members.
