What advantages do metal perforated facades bring to a building?

Perforated metal screens are valued elements in architecture and construction because of their versatility in terms of design aesthetics teamed with structurally strong properties. Their functionality in enabling light filtration and air circulation as well as recyclable attributes make them a sustainable solution for various architectural purposes. This further helps a structure earn additional LEED points.

The holes of the perforated metal screens give dual advantage by permitting passage of light while also obstructing harsh light. This key feature helps control daylight entering an enclosed space while also maintaining the air temperature.

The glossy sheen of the metal helps in bringing contemporary aesthetics to the structure. The ability of perforated metal screens to cover, enclose, divide, decorate and ventilate spaces innovatively for interiors enables better noise and privacy management.

Our metal screens can be customized to create company logos, personalized images etc. using our innovative PixelPerf perforation technology, which can be further backlit by LEDs for greater effect. Perforated metal is also an excellent option offering extensive sound managing capabilities as the screens function as a protective and decorative covering for special acoustical materials.

What are the considerations with respect to their installation, maintenance and lifespan?

We have seen a recent spurt in enquiries for perforated metal facades. They can last from 10 years up to 25 years, depending on the type of powder coating (PVDF) used. Pure aluminum is an asset as it can be credited back, unlike ACP, which has no re-buying value. Most importantly, pure aluminum is four times lighter than stainless steel, has a better coating, and its lifespan is almost that of stainless steel.

Sheet metal facades are durable, easy to assemble and replaceable. These advantages make the façade system a favorite among architects. Our engineers work closely to generate the best solutions for buildings, keeping in mind ease of assembly onsite and hassle-free maintenance. Diamond Metal Screens façade systems can withstand wind loads and environmental forces. The façade frames are easy to transport and assemble onsite.

Lokmanya Bank

Case study of a building that has used Diamond Metal Façade system.

The Lokmanya Bank in Pune designed by Ar. Praveen Bavdekar of Thirdspace Architecture Studio, has Perforated Metal panels as facade and sun screens. Utilizing sunlight during the day in the most efficient manner for lightning up interior spaces is always a challenge. Perforated metal screens are a great solution by offering dual advantages of permitting passage of light while also obstructing harsh light. These vertical perforated metal fins cover the building's southern and south eastern facades, creating an array of light effects that animate the exteriors and interiors of the building. The perforated metal façade partially reveals and hints at its interiors as well as intrigues and engages the onlooker for a deeper exploration.
