Sundip Kumar, Managing Director, SCL, shares his views on the Fenestration Industry in India, and the rising demand for uPVC across metros and tier cities.
There is rising trend in use of uPVC as fenestration material over traditional ones like aluminum, PVC, steel, and wood. Reasons such as affordability, higher security, weather resistance and other such factors have resulted in a growing market for uPVC windows and doors.
uPVC has hit the Indian market like a storm. The uPVC doors and windows market is estimated to grow at a CAGR 7% until 2020. Major factors for this push has been the tangible and intangible benefits that uPVC offers, which has led developers to source uPVC as an alternative to traditional fenestration options and homebuyers to replace their current fittings.
In tier 2 and 3 cities, the trend is on a rise mainly owing to the affordability factor of uPVC. And with government policies like PMAY to offer affordable housing to individuals from the low economic segment, in action, materials such as uPVC that offer cost benefits are in high demand.
With greater competition in the marketplace, what will influence customer choice of brand is, no doubt, the quality, which is the first consideration on buyer's list. But apart from the obvious, options such as customization and personalization will be a driving force behind brand preference. In addition, genuineness and legitimacy of the material will play a vital role as customers are becoming more aware and informed on how various players in the market have used sub-standard products in the guise of uPVC. In short, quality, authenticity, and flexibility for customization will be on the top of customers' brand preference.
SCL's Cora brand of windows is manufactured in premium grade uPVC. The windows have distinct characteristics and offer many advantages as the uPVC exhibits high thermal insulation, is heat resistant, and does not rot, leading to extreme longevity of the windows. Being hard-wearing, the main frames are extremely solid and impenetrable, and almost impossible to break in. If security is the concern, uPVC windows are the ideal solution.
