Formerly known as the Ekana International Cricket Stadium, it was inaugurated by the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, and renamed in honor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former prime minister of India.
The stadium has a roof cover of green & white colour membranes made in Germany. Low & Bonar GmbH provided more than 30,000 sqm of technical textiles in two colours, and especially developed the specific green colour membrane for this project. The venue enhances the artistic beauty of Lucknow with the eye catching roofing of the stadium.
